Ranibandh recently became the epicenter of a transformative initiative aimed at fostering sustainable agricultural practices. In the month of September 2024, PBKSKS organized a training cum workshop program focusing on the protection and conservation of biodiversity through sustainable agriculture, kitchen gardens, bio-pesticides, and bio-fertilizers. The event, attended by around 200 enthusiastic Sabar participants, was a testament to the growing commitment towards eco-friendly farming practices.

The day commenced with the warm welcome of our esteemed guests, Mr. Sourab Daripa, the Agricultural Development Officer (ADO), agriculture specialist Sujoy Chakraborty, Debashish Mukherjee and Samsundar Gorain and Dr. Sangita Nair, a renowned social worker and expert in medical science. The gathering was filled with farmers, community leaders, and local youth.

The ADO pointed out on practical aspects of sustainable farming. He introduced the participants to various bio-pesticides and bio-fertilizers, explaining their benefits over chemical alternatives. “Adopting bio-fertilizers not only improves soil health but also enhances crop yields sustainably,”.

He also emphasized the formation of women’s groups. If they maintain and operate the groups properly, the agriculture department could assist them with farming-related training and providing materials and seeds.

Discussions on creating kitchen gardens were a major highlight of the event. Participants were guided through the process of setting up these gardens, focusing on using organic methods to cultivate vegetables and herbs.

The interactive sessions fostered an environment of learning and sharing. Farmers exchanged experiences and challenges, while experts provided advice on overcoming issues related to soil fertility, pest management, and water conservation. The event highlights the importance of community engagement in promoting biodiversity conservation and sustainable agriculture.
