In February and March 2023 Van Kaleva programs were organized to spread awareness about wild and uncultivated food among Baiga children. On 15th February 2023 37 Baiga children (25 male and 12 Female) from Dhaddu Tola hamlet were taken for a forest trail to the neighbouring forest. They were accompanied by village elder Heera Bai who shared his traditional knowledge about the different wild and uncultivated food trees and plants and helped the children identify them.
On the 4th of March 2023 28 children (20 male and 8 female) from Peepar Tola hamlet were taken for a forest trail accompanied by Mukhiya (Headman) Lamtu Baiga and Sughar Baiga who shared their knowledge about the different wild foods and facilitated identification of different wild and uncultivated food trees and plants. Both programs involved a meal prepared and served in the forest itself. Both meals included seasonal wild leafy vegetables.
