Laxman Ahkey and Gyansa Bharti
On the 30th of November 2022 a training program cum planning meeting was organised with the Hariyali Community Seed Bank Committee of Satalwah village, Sidhauli Panchayat, Tamiya Block, Chhindwara District, Madhya Pradesh. The meeting involved 12 women, 2 children and 4 men. The training to the seed bank committee which covering the following issues and topics:
- Storing and looking after the different varieties of seeds
- Maintaining cleanliness of the seed bank
- Maintenance of seed bank committee stock register
- Managing distribution of seeds to farmers as well as return of seeds after the harvest and associated systems that need to be put in place.
- Opening of a bank account for the seed bank committee
Responsibility for the management of the seed bank was given to the committee through the meeting. The Chairman of the Community Seed Bank committee Susma Bai and the owner of the house where the seed bank has been set up carried out an identification of all the different varieties of seeds. The Secretary of the Hariyali Community Seed Bank Committee, Sevakram was given the responsibility of maintaining the Committee and seed bank register.
After the training there was a discussion regarding preparation for the next farming season and selection of farmers who will receive seeds for Dahiya the traditional shifting cultivation based agricultural practice of the Bhariya people. The event ended with a sumptuous meal of Kutki (Little millet) Khichdi.
