On the 15th of October 2019 the village elders of Devdongar village took a group of school children for a forest trail in Devdongar’s forests. The elders showed the children a variety of uncultivated food and medicinal plants. They shared how their ancestors used to use medicinal plants from their forests to treat themselves and did not need to depend on any medicines from outside.
The headmaster was very happy with the program and shared that even he got to see many plants that he was not aware of and could not identity. He also felt that it would be a good idea to bring out a small photo book sharing information about the different uncultivated food and medicinal plants of the Kamars. He said that all teachers agreed that such a book would be invaluable for the children and would help them improve their knowledge and awareness of their own traditions. The teachers said they were all supportive of any initiative that helps guide the future generation in a positive direction.
The headmaster concluded the program by encouraging all children to bring the uncultivated foods and medicinal plants that they learned about into regular use in their daily lives.
